Please join us for the

LGBTQ SIG meeting

Thursday, March 29th

1 to 2 PM

Location: Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives (CLGA)

The group’s meeting will be held prior to the ARLIS/NA conference tour of the CLGA and a visit to Glad Day Books. Topics of discussion for the meeting include, new initiatives for the group to get involved in, SIG members reporting on LGBTQ issues, developments, or projects they are currently involved in, or thinking of initiating, and ideas for the 2013 SIG meeting in Pasadena, CA.

We want to welcome any conference attendees who might be interested to join the SIG meeting, not just those registered for the CLGA tour. If this includes you, please meet in the Vide (Lower Concourse) at the conference hotel just before 12:30 PM to be shepherded over to the CLGA using public transit. Please purchase two public transit tokens at the Registration Desk prior to leaving. This will be enough for a round trip. Our main shepherd will be Randall Speller (CLGA Tour Leader). And just in case, directions to CLGA, and from CLGA (if used in reverse), are provided below by Randall Speller.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact Edward and/or I.

See you in Toronto!

Subway tokens are available at a reduced rate

Exit the Sheraton onto Queen Street and turn right (east). Cross Bay Street, and continue towards Yonge Street (The Bay store is on the south side).  At Yonge Street, cross at the lights to the east side and enter then subway through the office building on the south east corner.

Go down two sets of escalators to the subway entrance.  The subway entrance is well marked, just follow the signs.  There is also a subway entrance on the north side of Queen Street as well.

Go north on the subway to either the Wellesley Street Station or the Bloor station.

At Wellesley, exit the subway onto Wellesley Street East, and turn right (west) towards Yonge Street.  At Yonge Street, walk north, 3 blocks to Isabella Street, and turn right (east).  The Archives is in an 1858 house at No. 34 on the north side.

If you exit at Bloor street, make your way out of the station to the street level.  There a several exits from this station as it is the major subway interchange between the east/west and north/south lines, so once on the street you will have to orient yourself.  Yonge and Bloor are the main crossroads so find the corner, and walk south on Yonge 3 blocks to Isabella Street.  Turn left (east) onto Isabella and the archives is in an 1858 house at No. 34 on the north side.

You can walk to the archives from the Sheraton Hotel if you leave yourself enough time; it should take about 35 to 40 minutes, depending on how fast a walker you are.  Follow the above directions to Yonge Street and walk north to Isabella.

GLAD DAY BOOKS
598A Yonge Street

TORONTO, ON

M4Y 1Z3

416-961-4161

Glad Day Books is a short 5 to 7 minute walk from the Archives.

From the CLGA turn right and walk west on Isabella St towards Yonge Street. Turn left onto Yonge St, and use the first opportunity to cross Yonge Street to the west side.  Walk south to 598A.

The book store entrance is up the stairs and is on the second floor.

CHURCH STREET (the Village)

Church Street is a short walk from Glad Day.  Exit the shop to the street level and turn right (south), to Wellesley Street.  Turn left and walk east along Wellesley (note the subway entrance on the north side as this is the subway you can use to return to the hotel) to Church Street.  At this corner you are now in the heart of the village and we shall have a brief tour of the village and its history and then make some decisions about what you want to do.

To return to the hotel, find Wellesley Street and walk west towards Yonge.  The subway entrance will be on the north side.

Taxis are also readily available on Church Street.  Just flag one down.
