Hello ARLIS/NA Listserv:
I am new to the listserv and wanted to post some information about the current exhibition and catalog available for purchase by our Asian Arts and Culture Center at Towson University:
iona rozeal brown: afro-asiatic allegory
The show runs through May 12, 2012, in the Asian Arts Gallery, Center for the Arts Building, Towson University.
-iona rozeal brown, who is one
of the nation’s most exciting artists, created a theme after traveling to Japan in 2001. Informed by Ukiyo-e, brown’s Asian cultural investigations and interpretations offer profound commentaries about
mimicry, gender and constructions of culture. The large scale installation features a selection of paintings and prints as well as a new mural created exclusively for this exhibition.
-iona rozeal brown’s images simultaneously confront and entice viewers through their complex iconography and superb visuals. In her paintings, prints, drawings, and performance work, brown explores issues
of cultural and geographic identity employing both social and aesthetic mash-ups.
The exhibition’s catalog may be purchased for $28 directly through the Asian Arts and Culture Center. Please email
[log in to unmask] or call 410-704-2807.
