Before you enjoy all that Toronto has to offer, don’t miss out on the treasures of Buffalo, NY!

As ARLIS/NA and ARLIS/WNY member and cataloging guru, Sherman Clarke, reports below, this tour will show you amazing collections and architectural delights:

“The Albright-Knox Art Gallery<http://www.albrightknox.org/> in Buffalo was the first real art museum that I went to. This was in the 1960s when their Rauschenberg, Pollock, Still, and other abstract expressionists were brand spanking new. My love for that collection has not wavered. The Gallery is focused on contemporary art and is stupendous. As you make your plans for the 2012 ARLIS/NA conference in Toronto, I hope you will consider the Buffalo tour on Friday, March 30th. Not only will you be able to see the Albright-Knox but the tour will also go to the Darwin Martin House<http://www.darwinmartinhouse.org/> by Frank Lloyd Wright and drive by other wonderful sights such as the Guaranty Building by Louis Sullivan, Kleinhans Music Hall by Saarinen, and some of Olmsted’s wide boulevards and parks.

Many Canadians and US travelers often take advantage of flying into Buffalo rather than Toronto, potentially saving significant amounts of money (current fares from Austin to Buffalo vs Austin to Toronto are between $170-265 less $$ going into BUF) There is significant competition on the Buffalo-to-Toronto bus route so those fares are low too. If you are going on the ARLIS/NA tour, you can join the tour at its first Buffalo stop and stay with the tour until it returns to the hotel in Toronto. The Buffalo airport even has a web page about how much you can save and how to do it: http://www.buffaloairport.com/Canadian.asp

See you in Toronto!”
