The Morgan Library & Museum is pleased to announce the publication of Dan Flavin: Drawing, by Isabelle Dervaux, with contributions by Tiffany Bell and Jennifer Raab.

Although Minimalist artist Dan Flavin (1933-1996) is best known for his brightly colored installations of fluorescent lights, he was also an avid draftsman. Not only did he produce numerous sketches for his light installations, he also regularly drew from nature, like a traditional landscape painter. Published in conjunction with the first museum retrospective of Flavin's drawings, this richly illustrated publication explores the central role drawing played in his art. Extensive excerpts from the artist's journal, in which he wrote about his passion for drawing, are published here for the first time. In addition, Flavin's interest in the medium is illustrated with selections from his personal collection of nineteenth-century Japanese drawings, Hudson River school landscape studies, and drawings by twentieth-century artists, from Piet Mondrian to Donald Judd.
