In answer to a further question about travel options.

You can get to Toronto by train – from US destinations by Amtrak or from Canada by Via Rail or Go Transit. Toronto Union Station (65 Front Street West) is 4 blocks south of the Sheraton Centre. Take a cab ($5-6), the University subway line north to Osgoode/Queen St.  ($3), or walk up York Street until you get to Richmond. Map

You can also get to Toronto by Greyhound Bus or by Trailways. Check out the Neonbus service between New York and Canada. Megabus is probably the cheapest option. The Toronto Coach Terminal is located at 610 Bay Street, 4 blocks north of the Sheraton Centre. Map. Take a cab ($5-6), the Bay bus ($3), or walk south on Bay Street to Queen Street West, cross the street and enter the Sheraton Centre complex from the east end (the Sheraton Centre runs along the south side of Queen between Bay and York).

Bon voyage -- we look forward to seeing you soon.

Worrying over the cost of flights? Have your ticket but wondering how to get from the airport to the hotel? Procrastinating because it all seems so complicated? Here is some information that may help.

(1)  If you haven’t made flight plans yet, be sure to check out Porter Airlines. Porter flies to/from the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) – locals call it the “Island Airport” – it’s located 1.5 miles from downtown. Porter flies from/to: Boston (BOS); Burlington, VT (BTV); Chicago-Midway (MDW); Halifax (YHZ); Moncton (YQM); Montréal (YTM); Mont Tremblant (YUL); Myrtle Beach (MYR); New York-Newark (EWR); Ottawa (YOW); Québec City (YQB); Sault Ste. Marie (YAM); St. John's (YYT); Sudbury (YSB); Thunder Bay (YQT); Timmins (YTS); Toronto (YTZ); Washington-Dulles (IAD); Windsor (WQG). All other major airlines land at the Lester B. Pearson International Airport (YYZ) located 17.4 miles from downtown Toronto.

(2)  Another great fare busting idea is to fly to Buffalo and take the bus to Toronto, 125 miles or 2 hours north. Consider flying in early on Friday, March 30th and meet up with the all day tour, Buffalo: Architectural Treasures and Contemporary Art, which will get you directly to the conference hotel in Toronto on the tour bus on Friday night.  If you do decide to pick up the tour, you will need to register for the tour and local organizers will expect you to meet them at the first venue,  the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, at 11:00 am.  Be sure to contact either Dorothy Tao or Sherman Clarke and let them know you’re coming.

(3)  If you fly into the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ), the ferry service is free and you will be at the ferry dock, at the foot of Bathurst Street, in 15 minutes. The Sheraton Centre Toronto is at the corner of University Ave and Queen St. W. See map. A cab to the hotel will take 10 minutes and cost about $10. If you have all your stuff in a knapsack and are properly outfitted for walking, here are the directions to walk from the ferry dock: head away from the lake on Eireann Quay, turn right onto Queens Quay W. until you get to Lower Spadina Avenue then turn left. Walk 1.1km north on Spadina Avenue, then turn right onto Queen St. W and continue walking east for 1km to the Hotel.

(4)  If you fly into the Lester B. Pearson International Airport (YYZ), it can take about one hour to get from the airport to the hotel. See map. If you are not in a rush, the cheapest way is LOCAL TRANSIT - $3.00 one way. Catch the 192 Bus, known as the “Airport Rocket” from your terminal to Kipling Station, then transfer to the TTC subway and take the Bloor-Danforth Line East to St. George. Transfer at St. George onto the University Line going South and get off at Osgoode (Queen Street West). The hotel is located just east of the intersection of University and Queen Street West. Other transportation options include shuttle buses, limos and taxis – costs range from $24 to $50 one-way -- for more details including websites and phone numbers to prebook, see the About Toronto page on our website.

PS – Don’t forget, that if you want to leave Canada after the conference, you will require a passport.
