Dear Colleagues,

As you know, it is time to renew your ARLIS/NA membership. As you consider membership renewal, the Development Committee asks that you also consider joining the Society Circle. I am sure many of you ask "isn't that too expensive?" or "isn't that just for long-standing members?" The answers to both questions is no!

The Society Circle was formed in 2003 to help support ARLIS/NA, especially the educational aims of the Society. For instance, donations to the Circle provide funding for the Conference Speakers Fund, the Internship Fund, and the Alternative Voices Speakers Fund or may be unrestricted and used wherever the need is greatest. Without generous members willing to donate above and beyond membership fees, we would not be able to attract high quality conference speakers or bring new members to the profession through the Internship Fund. Members at all points in their career can contribute to these important initiatives and membership in the Circle starts at $100.

Our upcoming annual conference is a very special milestone for ARLIS/NA as it will be the Society's 40th Anniversary!! The Conference Committee is planning many notable special events, tours, workshops, and professional development programming which you will want to be sure to attend. One of the Society's special events, the Society Circle Reception, will be held Sunday, April 1, 2012, 7:30-9:30pm, at the TIFF Bell Lightbox.

Designed by world-renowned architectural firm KPMB, the TIFF Bell Lightbox occupies an entire city block in the heart of Toronto's media and entertainment district and is home to the Toronto International Film Festival, the leading public film festival in the world, screening more than 300 films from 60+ countries every September. The Lightbox has 5 public cinemas with 35mm, rare 70mm and state-of-the art digital capabilities, plus a performance stage. A rich screening program of new releases and retrospectives invites the public "to fall back in love with film." The Film Reference Library is the ultimate resource for filmmakers, students, researchers, screenwriters and film and television professionals. The Library maintains the world's largest resource of English-language Canadian film and film-related materials as well as a wide range of local, national and international film resources.

Sylvia Frank, Director of the Film Reference Library and Curator of the Canadian Film Gallery, will welcome Society Circle members to the TIFF Film Reference Library and provide a presentation/guided tour of the exhibition Otherworldly: The Art of Canadian Costume Design<http://tiff.net/otherworldly> which she curated in partnership with the Canadian Alliance of Film and Television Costume Arts and Design (CAFTCAD).

Please consider membership in this important fund raising arm of the Society.
