Dear colleagues,

The Visual Resources Association is now accepting articles for the
online VRA Bulletin (http://online.vraweb.org/vrab/) published by the
Berkeley Electronic Press. Over the past several months, the VRA
Board, Publications Advisory Group, and Editors have been working on
the transition from its current print format to an electronic
journal. We encourage all VRA members and interested colleagues to
consider publishing with VRA.

The mission of the VRA Bulletin is to serve the membership of the
Visual Resources Association by providing a professional forum for
the discussion and dissemination of ideas and information directly
related to the field of visual resources. The Bulletin also serves as
a record of the Association's research and progress; thus,
contributions from VRA professionals are essential to the Bulletin's
relevance and continuation.

VRA members are strongly encouraged to submit their writing to the
Bulletin and enjoy the benefits of being published. When considering
submitting an article, please keep in mind the following categories,
but we also encourage you to think creatively about information to
share through this new medium:

Feature Articles - authored by members of the Association and
like-minded information professionals from outside VRA, feature
articles cover a wide range of topics including: digital imaging and
digital projects; cataloging and classification systems; historical
collections and archives; data standards; education and professional
development; intellectual property rights and copyright; library
automation; collection development; digital curation and
preservation; visual literacy and instruction; and, professional
standards and ethics. Feature articles should be approximately 2,000
to 5,000 words in length.

Perspectives - the Perspectives section of the journal allows VRA
members the opportunity to write thoughtful, measured, and
well-researched professional opinion articles on a particular subject
or issue of interest. Perspectives articles should be approximately
1,000 to 3,000 words in length.

Reviews - The VRA Bulletin welcomes reviews. Members may review print
publications, lectures, presentations, databases, online collections,
software, standards, imaging equipment, etc. Reviews should be 250 to
1,000 words in length.

Association News - this section of the Bulletin is reserved for
association news (for both VRA and affiliate societies) as well as
member news when appropriate.

To Submit - Submitting content to the VRA Bulletin starts by visiting
the VRA Online site at http://online.vraweb.org/ and choosing "Submit
Article" from the menu of choices located in the left sidebar under
"Author Corner".

Account Creation - You will be prompted to log in or create an
account. If this is your first time submitting to the online VRA
Bulletin, you will need to create an account, which will provide the
editors with your contact information and the ability to properly
attribute your work. After you have created an account, you will
receive an e-mail confirming your account creation. Simply click on
the link in this e-mail--and your account will be ready to use.

Submission Process - The submission process consists of the following
steps: 1. Reading and accepting the Article Submission Agreement;
2. Providing information about yourself and any other authors; and
3. Uploading your article and any related items. You may revise any
of these elements later by accessing your submission from your
account page.

Before you begin a submission, you should prepare the following: the
article title, an abstract (separate from the article body), keywords
for your article (optional), and the text of your article needs to be
saved in Microsoft Word or RTF format. The article text does not need
to have a title page, integrated abstract, or page numbers, because
these are generated from information you add to the online system
when uploading. Your submission will be final when all required steps
have been completed and you click the final "Submit" button. The
editorial review will begin as soon as the VRA Bulletin receives a
readable article, along with an abstract and the article title. You
can update any information right up until the issue is published.

Terms and Guidelines - A Submission Guidelines page
(http://online.vraweb.org/vrab/submguide.html) is available which
outlines the process and requirements in greater detail. Also
available is a page detailing the VRA Bulletin Policies
(http://online.vraweb.org/vrab/policies.html), including General
Terms and Conditions, General Submission Rules, Rights for Authors
and VRA Online, and Attribution and Usage Policies. Please review
these terms before deciding to submit your work to the VRA Bulletin.
Once you are online, the system will walk you through the whole
process-it is really user friendly.

Please join us on this new publishing adventure! We're here to help,
