Dear Colleagues:

This morning's Santa Fe New Mexican carried the sad news of the death of Mary Hunt Kahlenberg, the co-author (with Ruth Barnes) of the book that received the Wittenborn Award this past March at the ARLIS/NA conference in Minneapolis, Five Centuries of Indonesian Textiles (Munich and New York: DelMonico Books/Prestel, 2010).  Below is a link to the article about her:

Besides the above title, she was the author or co-author of at least seven other important books on textiles.  She had lived in Santa Fe since 1986 after founding the TAI Gallery here in 1978.  She was the "muse" of the collector, Lloyd Cotsen (according to her husband, Rob Coffland), acting as his curator for many years and facilitating his donation of textiles and folk art to Santa Fe's Museum of International Folk Art, where they are housed in the Neutrogena Wing.  Before coming to Santa Fe, she curated more than 19 exhibitions over a ten-year period at the L.A. County Museum of Art.

Messages of condolence may be sent to The TAI Gallery, 1601 B Paseo de Peralta, Santa Fe, NM 87501.
