I was asked to share the responses to my query and I’ve received permission to post this response from the U. of Calgary.  Thank you Marilyn and kudos to Jerremie Clyde for a nicely done Collection LibGuide!

I encourage other respondents to post directly to the list if willing to share with the group since there is interest in this topic.

Best wishes,

Subject: RE: gaming in art & design libraries

Hi Janine,

The University of Calgary Library is currently developing a video game collection which includes both games from the past and into the future.  We have acquired gifts of older technology and are in the process of cataloguing new video games (click here for sample library catalogue search), which we hope to have ready for use by the end of October as students, as one might predict, are continually asking when this new service will be available. The games will circulate from the Visual & Performing Arts service point (http://library.ucalgary.ca/VPArts).  The gaming consoles will be in the same general area.  Although the collection is being developed for teaching and research purposes, we know and accept that it will be used as much for entertainment.

Here's the link to the Games and Related Media Collection LibGuide: http://libguides.ucalgary.ca/content.php?pid=155358.  This past February, we held a symposium on video gaming here at the University of Calgary - links under the Video Game LibGuide under the Accessing Games tab. Direct further questions to Jerremie Clyde.

On a different topic, you will perhaps notice my new title; I very recently changed positions within the Library - still working with arts-related collections but in a metadata role now.  A job advertisement will likely go out in the new year, after our administration determines what they want to advertise for.

Best,

Marilyn

Subject: {Spam?} [ARLIS-L] gaming in art & design libraries

Dear colleagues,

Are any of your libraries supporting game design programs?  If so, have you been involved in any (innovative?) gaming related programming/activities in your libraries?  Would you mind sharing your successes and challenges?  I would also be interested in hearing about gaming-related programming in academic libraries that do not necessarily support game design programs.

Thanks in advance for sharing!

Best wishes,
