Try Virginia Allison at UC Irvine. She's terrific on this topic! http://www.faculty.uci.edu/profile.cfm?faculty_id=5566 http://libguides.lib.uci.edu/visual_literacy Sandra Sandra J. I'd just like to remind everyone that, following interest expressed at recent meetings, we're hoping to address Visual Literacy in Library Instruction at our quickly approaching fall meeting and would love anyone who has some knowledge of the subject, has integrated visual literacy into their instruction or elsewhere within the library, might recommend someone who can speak to the topic, or even has references to add to a short bibliography of the subject, to please consider a short, informal presentation to the group! You may email me directly, off list. We'd be pleased to hear from anyone on the national listserv, as well, especially in regards to articles on the topic, presentations, and/or online resources. Also, please send your RSVP to me for the fall meeting at your earliest convenience. We have a lovely visit in the works at the San Francisco Public Library, including a tour of some their special collections. I look forward to seeing you all! Lisa Conrad (Chair), Leia Casey (Vice-Chair), and myself (Greg Borman, Secretary/Treasurer) would like to address the topic of visual literacy at the meeting. With this in mind, we're looking for Chapter members who teach visual literacy, or have dealt with the topic to some degree, to speak on November 4th. Or, perhaps you know someone in the Northern California area who would like to speak on this subject. While many of you are likely familiar with this topic, we've come up with a working definition of visual literacy: "In a world in which people are processing large amounts of information every day, the ability to assess and decipher visual communication is an important skill. Those who can evaluate a wide range of images and other visual stimuli should be able to do so while considering cultural, historical, and other contexts. As art librarians, our role should be to help educate individuals to think critically and creatively about viewing and producing visual information in digital, print, and other forms". If you would like to address the topic of visual literacy for our Fall meeting, please contact our Chair Lisa Conrad at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> by Friday, October 14th and we'd be happy to have you contribute to our dialogue on November 4th. Thanks very much in advance! best, Greg Borman Secretary/Treasurer ARLIS/NA, Northern CA Chapter _______________________________________________ ARLIS-CA mailing list [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> https://lists.csueastbay.edu/mailman/listinfo/arlis-ca ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mail submissions to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> For information about joining ARLIS/NA see: http://www.arlisna.org/join.html Send administrative matters (file requests, subscription requests, etc) to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> ARLIS-L Archives and subscription maintenance: http://lsv.arlisna.org Questions may be addressed to list owner (Judy Dyki) at: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mail submissions to [log in to unmask] For information about joining ARLIS/NA see: http://www.arlisna.org/join.html Send administrative matters (file requests, subscription requests, etc) to [log in to unmask] ARLIS-L Archives and subscription maintenance: http://lsv.arlisna.org Questions may be addressed to list owner (Judy Dyki) at: [log in to unmask] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
