Colleagues, I’d like to alert you to an outstanding two-disc DVD set that has just been published: Why Quilts Matter: History, Art & Politics. It will be shown on numerous PBS stations in the fall and is available for sale now. A really rich website (www.whyquiltsmatter.org) complements the DVD. The website has video clips from each of the nine episodes, thumbnails of and information about every image in the series and biographies of everyone interviewed. Here are the titles of the episodes: ● Quilts 101: Antique and contemporary ● Quilts bring history alive ● Quilt marketplace ● What is art? ● Gee’s bend, the most famous quilts in America ● How quilts have been viewed and collected ● Empowering women one quilt at a time ● Quilt nation, 20 million and counting ● Quilt scholarship: romance and reality I have no personal interest in this (other than the fact that Kentucky is a state rich in quilt history).
