All, It is sad the hear the news via the photo history list, but Richard Rudisill is now gone. The info below comes from that list. He was also the author of "Mirror Image: The Influence of the Daguerreotype on American Society." E. Lee Eltzroth There is some sad news to report for the New Mexico history community. Richard Rudisill, the long-time Curator of Photography and Curator Emeritus at the New Mexico History Museum's Photo Archives, has passed away last week. Richard, who received – I believe – the country’s first Ph.D. in American Studies (University of Minnesota), was an absolute authority in the history of photography and an expert in the photographic history of New Mexico. However, Richard’s knowledge went far beyond photography as his knowledge in U.S. and World History was limitless. He was connected and respected all over the world but developed a particular close friendships with Holland. Richard published the still highly valuable "Photographers of the New Mexico Territory, 1854-1912" (1973) and co-published "Photographers: A Sourcebook for Historical Research" (2000) which featured his annotated bibliography and directories of photographers. Richard also published numerous articles on abundant topics of photography. -- Tomas Jaehn H-NewMexico List and Book Review Editor Santa Fe, New Mexico ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mail submissions to [log in to unmask] For information about joining ARLIS/NA see: http://www.arlisna.org/join.html Send administrative matters (file requests, subscription requests, etc) to [log in to unmask] ARLIS-L Archives and subscription maintenance: http://lsv.arlisna.org Questions may be addressed to list owner (Judy Dyki) at: [log in to unmask] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
