Dear Jonathan, I want to commend you and the other members of the Task Force for your leadership on this project. The establishment of Art Documentation as a peer reviewed journal along with this new platform for accessing current and historical electronic content is a major step in the right direction for the Society as we look to disseminate our scholarship to our membership and beyond. The association with the University of Chicago Press adds prestige and expanded marketing opportunities for the Society that could not have been attained otherwise. Thank you for your diligence and thoughtful exploration of the many complex issues throughout this process. We are better for it. A press release will be issued shortly, but in the meantime here are the main points of the agreement: * the contract is for 5 years * Art Documentation will continue to appear in print * the first 1st issue to be produced with the Press will be volume 31, number 1, Spring 2012 * Art Documentation will also appear online in JSTOR, with current issues appearing in Current Scholarship http://about.jstor.org/participate-jstor/libraries/current-scholarship-p rogram, as well as the complete backfile ARLIS/NA members will receive the following as benefits of membership: * current print copy of Art Documentation * online access to Art Documentation in JSTOR (current and complete backfile) * 30% discount on University of Chicago Press monographs (more information to follow). Here is a brief history of the process leading up to this development. It began under the previous Chair of the Communications and Publications Committee, Roger Lawson, with the introduction of peer review to Art Documentation. In April 2010 the ARLIS/NA Executive Board asked the Communications and Publications Committee to establish a Task Force to make recommendations for developing an online format for Art Documentation. The Task Force reported in August 2010 with several recommendations, including: * participating in JSTOR Current Scholarship * partnering with a university press to manage the relationship with JSTOR Current Scholarship and print production * selecting a university press through an RFP process. During last fall, the Task Force oversaw the RFP process, analyzed the responses, obtained references, and inspected sample publications. In early 2011 the Task Force's unanimous choice of University of Chicago Press was approved by the ARLIS/NA Executive Board, and the addition of Art Documentation to the Chicago list was approved by the Press's Faculty Board of Publications. I would like to thank most warmly the members of the Task Force, Laurel Bliss, Judy Dyki, Sonja Staum, Kay Teel and Sandy Brooke for their hard work on the process, as well as Chris Roper at ARLIS/NA HQ and Tom Riedel, ARLIS/NA Treasurer, for their support.
