If you will be attending the AAM conference in Houston this spring, we'd love to have you stop by for a visit!

The Small Town Charm, World Class Culture Tour will begin on the bus ride from Houston to Orange, Texas. During the travel time from Houston, the Stark Foundation's resident historians, Ellen Reinstra and JoAnn Stiles, will be on the bus to provide in-depth overviews about each of the venues and about the history of the fascinating family whose collections, wealth, and philanthropic spirit provided the foundation for these venues.

Venues include The W.H. Stark House, Stark Museum of Art, Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center, Frances Ann Lutcher Theater for the Performing Arts, and Lutcher Memorial (First Presbyterian) Church. Each demonstrates the diverse programming and unique collaborative opportunities that can occur among the various program areas of a private operating foundation, the Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation.

Because of the close proximity of the venues, the Foundation will offer participants the option of touring all five venues or, alternatively, selecting among the venues for a more concentrated tour. Under either option, AAM members will be given private tours of venues by managing directors and other key personnel, obtaining insight and behind-the-scenes opportunities generally not offered to the public.

The Stark Museum of Art presents one of the finest collections of Western American art in the country. The collection focuses on the stunning land, the dramatic people and the diverse wildlife of the American West. Paintings, sculpture and prints interpret the West from nineteenth century frontier artists to the twentieth century artistic colonies in New Mexico. Within the galleries, viewers experience changing perceptions of the West through works of art by John James Audubon, John Mix Stanley, Thomas Moran, Frederic Remington, Charles Marion Russell, Georgia O'Keeffe, members of the Taos Society of Artists, and many others.

Thursday, May 26, 2011; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Bus departs at 8:00 a.m. from George R. Brown Convention Center and returns to George R. Brown Convention Center at 5:00 p.m. Refreshments will be provided throughout the day and box lunches will be provided. The food and beverage cost will be underwritten by the Stark Foundation. For more information on these venues visit www.starkfoundation.org<http://www.starkfoundation.org>. See the AAM conference program for tour registration details.
