The Morgan Library & Museum is pleased to announce the publication of
Mannerism and Modernism: The Kasper Collection of Drawings and
Photographs, by Isabelle Dervaux, Rhoda Eitel-Porter, Jennifer
Tonkovich, et al.

This exceptional private collection of drawings and photographs,
assembled by American fashion designer Herbert Kasper, known to all
simply as Kasper, features over one hundred works, including sixteenth-
and seventeenth-century drawings from the Mannerist period, European and
American modern and contemporary drawings, and photography.

The tripartite nature of his holdings is a testament to Kasper*s unique
taste. Most of the great Mannerist draftsmen-primarily Italian but also
northern European-are represented, including Perino del Vaga, Polidoro
da Caravaggio, Giorgio Vasari, and Hendrick Goltzius. Other strengths of
the collection include modern and contemporary drawings by Pablo
Picasso, Juan Gris, Henri Matisse, Jean Dubuffet, Richard Serra, and Ed
Ruscha. The photographs span the early twentieth century to the present,
chronicling the evolution of the medium through prints by Constantin
Brancusi, Man Ray, Robert Mapplethorpe, Jenny Holzer, and Adam Fuss. In
addition to a foreword by Morgan director, William M. Griswold, and a
preface by Kasper, this beautifully illustrated catalogue includes
scholarly entries on these rarely seen, important works.
