bill's correct: ultimately one is supposed to get clearance from the artist/estate. the institution/photographer has rights to the photo but not the actual art. i'm sure there are other copyright implications. with copyright, there always are! The forthcoming (March) issue of Print Quarterly (the leading scholarly journal of prints) will have an essay on this subject by Anthony Griffiths.
