The ARLIS/NA Gerd Muehsam Award Committee is pleased to announce that this year's GMA winner is Katherine L. Kelley.

The Gerd Muehsam Award is given annually to recognize excellence in a graduate student paper or project on a topic relevant to art librarianship. This award was established to honor the memory of Gerd Muehsam (1913-1979), distinguished scholar, teacher, and art bibliographer, whose support of and dedication to ARLIS/NA was an inspiration to her colleagues and students.

Katherine L. Kelley is a second year student pursuing a Master of Arts in Library and Information Studies at the University of Wisconsin--Madison.  She received her Bachelor of Arts in 2008, majoring in Art History at The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio.  Her senior Independent Study focused on gender issues in the transition from Abstract Expressionism to Pop Art evident in the work of Jackson Pollock and Roy Lichtenstein.  A summer internship at the Smithsonian American Art Library spurred her decision to go into library studies.  She hopes to continue her education next year, pursuing a Master's degree in Art History with the goal of a position at an art library.

Katherine will be attending the annual conference in Minneapolis and presenting her paper "The Complications of Bridgeman and Copyright (Mis)use" as part of the New Voices panel on March 25.  When you see her, please congratulate her on being this year's recipient of the Gerd Muehsam Award and welcome her to ARLIS/NA.
