Thank you to Min Xu for her added comments. I am sorry I overlooked this in
my earlier email. What she states is very true and a very good point to
realize.

Please note---there are many such 'Quanji = 全集' and they are all quite
good and of the highest level of scholarship, as well as displaying the
entire range of an artist or group of artists such as studies on the 8
eccentric masters of Yangzhou (扬州八怪全集), however, most of these
studies are not truly comprehensive compilations but comprehensive surveys
of an artist's entire oeuvre. Some of them come close, but one should be
careful about thinking of this term ('Quanji = 全集') as the equivalent of
a true catalogue raisonne. This term is also used for surveys of types of
art works such as the recently published 16 volume work on ceramics
unearthed in archaeological excavations (Zhongguo Chutu Ciqi Quanji=中国出
土瓷器全集) or the huge series on all art works produced in China (Zhongguo
Meishu Quanji = 中国美术全集), nevertheless, these surveys, though thorough
and comprehensive are not inclusive of everything.....there is no way that
they could be....the amount of works is far too overwhelming.

One still must realize that the concept of a complete works/'Quanji = 全集'
sort of collection is an entirely modern construct in China.

Dear colleagues,

The other partial answer could be that the East Asian library field never
paid attention to the subdivision "catalogues raisonnes". I’ve almost
never seen a Chinese record with "catalogues raisonnes" in its subject
headings. Only the subdivision “Catalogs” is used. But there are quite some
works of this nature on the famous Chinese artists, like Huang Binhong quan
ji 黃賓虹全集 10 vols; Wu Guanzhong quan ji吳冠中全集 9 vols; Fu Baoshi
quan ji傅抱石全集 6 vols; Xu Beihong hui hua quan ji徐悲鴻繪畫全集; Ren
Bonian quan ji任伯年全集; and Wang Xizhi shu fa quan ji王羲之書法全集, etc.
The word “quan ji 全集” means complete works, and it could be applied to
any discipline, not only to art catalogues.

I’ll post on the East Asian Library listserv about this, so Chinese
catalogers may discuss and start using this subdivision "catalogues
raisonnes" for complete works on Chinese artists, as more and more such
works will be published in the future. Thank you very much for bringing up
and discussing this issue.

Best regards,
Min
