A discussion between architect Peter Pennoyer and writer Anne Walker, moderated by Susan Chute supervising librarian of the Art and Picture Collections, will explore the influence and implementation of classical traditions and the skillful adaptation of timeless design to the exigencies of modern life.

Peter Pennoyer
, a graduate of Columbia Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, formed Peter Pennoyer Architects in 1990. The firm has designed homes and institutional projects from New York to California . He is the recipient of numerous honors, including the Friends of the Upper East Side Historic Districts Fourth Annual "Ambassador" to the Upper East Side Award (2007), the Victorian Society in America's New York Chapters Annual Publication Award (2007 and 2009), and the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission Award. He is the coauthor (with Anne Walker) of  The Architecture of Delano & Aldrich, The Architecture of Warren & Wetmore, and  The Architecture of Grosvenor Atterbury . Pennoyer serves on the board of directors of a number of organizations concerned with architecture and the related arts, including the Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America (where he serves as Chairman), the Morgan Library & Museum, the Whiting Foundation, the National Peer Review Board for the General Services Administration, and the 2 East 62nd Street Foundation.  


Anne Walker holds a master's degree in historic preservation from Columbia University . She has collaborated with Peter Pennoyer on a series of monographs devoted to major classical American architects:  The Architecture of Delano & Aldrich, The Architecture of Warren & Wetmore, and  The Architecture of Grosvenor Atterbury .  


Susan Chute
is the Supervising Librarian of the Art and Picture Collections at The New York Public Library. In addition to her M.L.S., she holds an M.F.A. in Theatre Design from the University of Michigan , and spent 13 years as a professional theatrical designer. Having served as a senior guide to the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, she has a fascination with the styles of sacred architecture across history.


Initiated and organized by Arezoo Moseni, 
Architectural Explorations in Books is a new series of engaging programs delving into the critical role that architecture books play in the understanding of contemporary urban developments and structures. The events feature book presentations and discussions by acclaimed architects, critics, curators, designers, photographers and writers.
