Hello Arlis members,

Regarding my "ebooks in the library" question, I received almost as many requests to summarize as I did responses. Clearly a topic where we have as many questions as answers!

From the responses, the collections of ebooks used are:
	Safari Books Online (software manuals),
Springer (science, technology and medicine), and
	ebrary (Academic Complete).

These generally support non-art areas, though Academic Complete did include some art materials. A several years old collection from Netlibrary (used to support non-art areas) was mentioned as being underused and having science titles that were too advanced for general use.

Other libraries are purchasing carefully selected individual titles that have primarily text-based content, especially in the following areas:
	sustainability and the environment,
	art and architecture theory,
	critical texts,
	reference sources and
	titles with heavy reserves use.
Some libraries are using sets and individual titles.

Patron reaction ranged from excited (especially if they don't, can't or won't come to campus) to patron still being mostly interested in print versions.

Sarah Falls mentioned that she will moderating a panel on this at the next conference. I am sure that will be fascinating and well attended.

Thank you all for your responses. Good luck to us!
Amy

> I am wondering how ebooks will fit into our art and design school library, in both our art and non-art collections.

> Has anyone had success integrating ebooks into their art library? Have your patrons found this format to be superior (or even usable) for any particular needs. Are you making plans to incorporate this format into your collection? Is there demand for or interest in this format from your users or institutional management? Successes? Failures?
