Dear ARLIS/NA
Members,
It is with great pleasure that Archivision, Luna Imaging and Scholars
Resource announce FREE hosted access for all current and future
clients of the Archivision Digital Library (conditions apply).
Access is free for all who request it during the current academic
year, through July 1, 2011. After the initial free access period, if
you don't qualify for continued free access as outlined below by each
provider, an annual access fee applies. Annual access fees are simple
and range from $300 to $1750 depending on the image user base and are
invoiced by your chosen service provider and a set-up fee may apply.
Switch options or take the Library home at any time!
Choose from the following three hosting options:
1) MDID on an Archivision server (starting now)
2) LUNA on a Luna Imaging server (coming to the LUNA Commons in
January 2011), or
3) SCHOLARS RESOURCE platform (starting now)
All access options require that the images first be licensed from
Archivision in Library Modules and a Hosted Access Agreement be
signed. Of course, the option to load Archivision's high quality
images and rich standardized metadata into your local database or
other popular delivery systems is always an option. Now you can also
opt for quick and easy access through any of these hosted options
while you load locally or wait for access elsewhere.
Each hosting
provider offers unique incentives, read the details!
Archivision
hosting in MDID: Access remains free if you license a new module
from us each year. If you can't license your next module and need to
pay an annual access fee, the fees paid are a payment plan towards the
next Archivision module you can license.
Luna Imaging
hosting in LUNA: Access through LUNA is available for everyone and
the annual access fee (after July 1, 2011) may be credited towards a
new Insight + LUNA Site License or Hosted Service Agreement for your
departmental and institutional content. Archivision Library access is
free to LUNA software (Site License or Hosted Service) clients. Access
in LUNA combines the Archivision Library with massive amounts of free
content in the LUNA Commons--all powered by LUNA.
Scholars
Resource hosting: Access fees paid are credited towards the hosting of
personal/institutional content on the Scholars Resource site or the
licensing of additional images in the Scholars Resource Collections.
Access the Archivision Library along with another 200,000 images from
15 other world-class collections -- all in one place!
Archivision and Scholars Resource will soon announce a free two week
"trial access" period to clients of Archivision Library Modules to
help you choose the best hosting option. Test drive these systems and
see which interface plus incentives work best for you and your image
users. No agreement signature is needed for trial access. A demo
access will be offered to non Archivision Library clients. Luna will
announce its trial access in January, 2011.
For full information about each of these new hosted access options,
including our common access fee schedule and a downloadable Hosted
Access Agreement in PDF from each service provider, please see the
following link: <http://www.archivision.com/educational/access_options.html>
In challenging economic times there is no better feeling than knowing
you own the digital resources your users have come to depend on.
Archivision's licensing fees are one-time and effective in perpetuity
and we now hold over 46,000 images (through Module Five) with another
6000 images coming in March 2011. We hope these three new flexible
hosted options will help make accessing and/or expanding the digital
resources you own, a quick and cost effective solution.
Sincerely,
Scott Gilchrist, President
