The
Museum of Modern Art donated its Art Reference Photo Files to the Frick Art
Reference Library in 2001. The vast collection includes
approximately 47,000 photographs and other reproductions of works of art
organized into 5,706 artist files and subject files.
From the
time of the 2001 donation, staff of the Frick Art Reference Library have been
creating records that describe the files of individual artists. Records
describing each of the 5,000+ files will be added in installments to Arcade,
the catalog shared by the Frick, MoMA, and Brooklyn Museum. The first
installment of 1,700 records can now be accessed through Arcade (to search: http://arcade.nyarc.org;
to browse all MoMA photoarchive records: http://tiny.cc/orrdk)
and WorldCat (http://www.worldcat.org).
A
complete listing of the artist names and subject headings represented in the
collection can be found in the Guide to the Museum of Modern Art Reference
Photo Files, which is available at the Museum of Modern Art Queens Library
Archive and the Frick Art Reference Library (http://arcade.nyarc.org:80/record=b483314~S1).
The files
are available for study in the Reading Room of the Frick Art Reference Library
during regular library hours (Monday–Friday 10:00-5:00 and Saturdays,
September–May, 9:30-1:00). For further information about visiting the
Frick, see the website (http://www.frick.org/library/information.htm)
or contact the Reference Staff at [log in to unmask] or

The MoMA gift supplements a much larger body of information already in
Arcade that offers records about our holdings of more than 37,000 artists
represented in the Frick Photoarchive Collection. To
learn more about our collection, please see http://frick.org/photoarchive/index.htm.
