On
behalf of the artlibraries.net advisory committee, I am pleased to provide
information on the upcoming 4th general meeting of
artlibraries.net. The conference will take place at the Gulbenkian
Foundation in Lisbon, Portugal, October 28-30, and will serve as the
first European venue to continue discussions begun in New York and Los Angeles
relating to the Future of Art Bibliography (FAB) initiative.
Registration is free, and the program is open to all interested
librarians. Affiliation with an artlibraries.net member is not
required. Please see the full program of events copied below.
The
meeting will offer an invaluable opportunity to meet European colleagues in a
great setting, the marvelous city of Lisbon. The Gulbenkian Foundation,
which houses a world-renowned art collection and library, is generously
providing meeting, transportation, and catering support for the events.
Talks by librarians and IT professionals from Europe and North
America will address the future not only of artlibraries.net, but the larger
question of art bibliography in a rapidly changing information landscape.
Tours on Saturday feature visits to the Unesco site of Jerónimos Monastery and
to the library of the National Palace of Mafra.
Airfare
from North America to Portugal is reasonable at this time of the year, Lisbon
remains an affordable city, and the Gulbenkian has secured very favorable rates
at two nearby hotels. Please consider attending this event. To
register or make inquiries, please contact Paulo Leitão, [log in to unmask].
