Registration is now open for the 3rd annual Contemporary Artists'
Books Conference, to be held at PS1 on November 5-6. The conference is
sponsored by Printed Matter, and held in conjunction with the NY Art
Book Fair.

The program will include speakers, panels, artists' presentations, and
receptions. The conference focuses on recent developments in artists'
books. Sessions this year include discussions of zines from the Riot
Grrrl movement, typography, pedagogy, and criticism. These and other
themes are intended to encourage dialogue amongst scholars,
collectors, artists, and librarians.

Six panel sessions will be held, along with an hour-long "pecha
kucha," or lightning round, in which invited guests will present for
five minutes each, discussing one or more artists' books, zines,
multiples, etc. This year's keynote panel features Richard Hell, Josh
Smith, and Christopher Wool in conversation about various book works
they have collaborated on.

Full-conference registrants will receive a specially commissioned publication
by the multimedia artist, Emily Roysdon. "West St." is an accordion
fold artist's book that combines text and photographs by Roysdon with
images from the estate of Alvin Baltrop. The setting for both sets of
photographs is the deteriorating industrial architecture of the Hudson
River piers. Roysdon views this book as part of her ongoing interest
in the cultural history of the piers and an opportunity to reflect on
Baltrop's spectacular, and unheralded oeuvre of photographs.

Registration for the full two-day conference is $100. Tickets for
single sessions are $20.
