Hello
ARLIS-L:
This
is a call for presenters at the 2011 Association for Architecture School
Librarians (AASL) Conference!
In
1987, Thomas Monaghan sponsored the Symposium on the Architecture Library of
the Future. Those proceedings were later published in the monograph, The
Architecture Library of the Future: Complexity and Contradiction, edited by
Peggy Ann Kusnerz (University of Michigan Press, 1989). The
fundamental question posed to contributors was, "what will be the form,
content, services, and organization of the library that supports the 'number
one' college of architecture in the year 2000." This panel seeks
presenters to review and assess pronouncements made by our colleagues back then
while developing projections of their own, looking towards 2050. Presenters
will be asked to focus on one of the essays from the 1989 volume, all of which
fall into the following categories:
Education
and the Architecture Library
Information
Resources in the Architecture
Library
Administrative
Placement
of the Architecture Library
Role
for Librarians
Planning
and Designing the Architecture Library
Additional
areas to fold into the discussion could include new demands and expectations
from today's and tomorrow's researchers, the changing nature of architectural
special collections, shifts in collection development, cooperative
collection building, and trends in architectural library design.
ARLIS
members and friends are invited to submit abstracts by November 1, 2010.
Abstracts of no more than 300 words should be sent directly to Hannah
Bennett. The panel format will feature five speakers, each addressing
his/her topic for a 20-minute period. Please indicate which essay from the
Kusnerz publication your proposal is targeting and be sure to include contact
information and professional or academic affiliation. Abstracts should define
the subject and summarize the argument to be presented on the panel.
The
2011 conference will be held in Montreal, Canada, in conjunction with the
Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture, from March 3rd
through March 5th. Details about the AASL conference will be posted
to the AASL website.
