Dear Collective Wisdom
I have in hand a printout (from PDF, I guess) of the 1st p. (unnumbered) from an article in a serial pub., vol. 9, serial 438 (June 2, 1922). The article is aparently signed VanDyke Brown (or something very similar); this is presumably a pseudonym, possibly for the LA Times art critic Antony Anderson. The page is headed Life and Art (but I don't think that's a journal title); the article, or rather, a series of art new tidbits, which occupies most of the p., and then continues presumably on the next p., is headed "Los Angeles Letter." It mentions the painters Edgar Payne, Jack Smith, Charles M. Russell, the dealer Earl Stendahl (who had recently hosted a going away party for Payne) et al. It shares the p. with a short poem "The happy chair," by Howard C. Kegley, reprinted from a collection the poet published several years earlier.
Several contacts have to this point been unable to come up with the data I seek:
1) the name of the source publication (I assume a so. CA weekly newspaper with a regular arts feature)
2) the author of the piece
3) a means of obtaining the complete article
Short of the actual answers, any strengthening of the hunches mentioned above, and any referrals to experts in so. CA art doings of the period or journalism historians up on the that period & esp. that corner of the world, would be much appreciated!
