Cultural historian Dr. Steven Watson will moderate a book presentation and panel discussion focused on the new book, The Autobiography and Sex Life of Andy Warhol, a collection of intimate interviews with Warhol's closest associates, friends and his superstars. John Wilcock the author of the book, Gretchen Berg, a photojournalist, Brigid Berlin, artist and former Warhol superstar and Taylor Mead, actor and poet join Watson for a revealing conversation about Andy Warhol's life.

Steven Watson is a cultural historian who is particularly interested in the group dynamics of the twentieth century American avant-garde. He has written about the first American avant-garde, the Harlem Renaissance, and the Beat Generation. His most recent book is Factory Made: Warhol and the Sixties.

John Wilcock is the author of The Autobiography and Sex Life of Andy Warhol. He began writing as a teenager and after moving to the United States in the 1950's, he worked as a travel reporter for The New York Times and was a founding editor of the Village Voice. Wilcock also founded and co-published Interview magazine with Andy Warhol.

Gretchen Berg is a photojournalist who worked in the underground press during the 1960's. Her meditations were widely syndicated in-depth interviews complete with intimate photographs of the subjects. Her interview, "Andy Warhol, My True Story," conducted in 1966 when she was just 23, is recognized as one of the best and most revealing interviews with Warhol.

Brigid Berlin is an artist and former Warhol Superstar. She appeared in several Andy Warhol films including Chelsea Girls, Bike Boy, and The Loves of Ondine. She met Andy Warhol in 1964 and became one of his closest friends. Their long telephone conversations became the basis for several Warhol projects.

Taylor Mead is an actor and poet who has been active in New York City's arts community since the early 1960's. He had been part of the Beat scene in San Francisco in the 50's and had serious avant-garde credentials, and even acting experience (which was a rarity at the Factory) when he first appeared in Warhol's films. He starred in the Warhol-directed films Couch, Nude Restaurant, Imitation of Christ, and Lonesome Cowboys.

Book Overview: The Autobiography and Sex Life of Andy Warhol is a collection of interviews with Warhol's closest associates, friends, and his superstars that depicts the infamous Factory scene of the 1960's and provides an intimate look into the career, personality, and private life of Warhol during the early years of his burgeoning fame. This is likely the most revealing portrait of Warhol; instead of offering one view of him, it is a composite of many impressions, each providing a separate piece of the puzzle that was Andy Warhol.

The program series An Art Book is a celebration of the essential importance and beauty of art books. The events showcase book presentations and discussions by world renowned artists, critics, historians, curators and writers.
