Artist James Jaxxa will talk about Do away with, his site-specific installation for  Art in the Windows exhibition series  at the Mid Manhattan Library. He will be joined by independent curator and educator Lowell Pettit to discuss the creative process and influences behind his work.

James Jaxxa lives and works in New York City, and previously lived in Seattle. His work explores issues of male identity, vulnerability, chauvinism, urban life and the artificial. Jaxxa’s work has been exhibited throughout the United States. In New York City , he has exhibited his work at apexart, Longwood Art Project, Exit Art and Rush Arts Gallery. In the Seattle area, his work was shown at numerous locations including the Bellevue Art Museum, Vital 5, and venues with the Seattle Art Museum. In 2009, his public artwork Potential Connections was installed for the opening of Seattle’s mass transit system. He is a recipient of an Artists Space Independent Project Grant and Seattle Arts Commission Purchase Award. Jaxxa attended the School of Visual Arts and Rhode Island School of Design, and received his B.S. and M.S. from Michigan State University.

Lowell Pettit (Pettit Art Partners) is a contemporary art advisor, independent curator and educator. He has worked for galleries, dealers and collectors in the United States and abroad. He has lectured on the history and business of art for various institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art , Guggenheim Museum, Sculpture Center, Credit Suisse, McKinsey, Tiffany & Co.,  New York University and Sotheby's Institute of Art .  Pettit has been featured in many publications including The New York Times,  The New York Observer, Fortune, Forbes, ArtNews and The International Art Newspaper, and he is a member of the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) and the International Association for Professional Art Advisors (APAA).

Initiated in 2004, the Artist Dialogues provide a forum for appreciation, interpretation and understanding of contemporary art. Artists are paired with critics, curators, writers or other artists to converse about art and the potential of new ideas.
