The 5 Year Plan book is a benefit project to support Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF).  100% of the money raised for the book will go to MSF.  Any profits from sales of the book (after MSF and expenses) will help seed the next benefit project.

The 5 Year Plan book has 32 pages of artwork by 32 artists, silkscreen-printed onto hand-loomed khadi (cotton) cloth, with a hand sewn binding.  The book is 14 by 14 square (35 X 35 centimeters) is issued in an edition of 500 with a signed limited edition of 65Each book comes in a handloomed khadi jhola shoulder bag.

The limited edition will be signed by all 32 artists, with hand-embroidered covers by Alpana Bawa. Advance purchasers will be thanked by name within the book.  The pre-publication price is $1500; the limited edition of the book will be shipped to all sponsors in the summer of 2010.

Included with the cloth book, a second, smaller book on paper serves as a literary supplement. It contains a selection of scholarly writings on the significance of jhola bags, their place within the Independence Movement in India, and their relevance to our contemporary global situation. Other selections include poetry, personal narrative, and activist perspectives.  Contributors include Allen Ginsberg, Lee Ann Brown, Shiv Mirabito, Rev.
