Sorry - I should have added that we have been developing an in-house digital
collection (currently at over 27,000 images) which supplements ARTstor's
richness. Our in-house collection focuses on contemporary art which is
currently ARTstor's weakness. However, I should say that ARTstor is
continuing to work on this and we are constantly surprised at what is there.

We have been using ARTstor since the fall of 2005 and find it a tremendous
value.

We have been slowly moving our faculty, individually, to this resource. We
target one or two faculty members a semester and work with them directly to
help them move from 35mm dependency to digital. The faculty love the
'folders' and ARTstor's proprititory off line viewer (Power Point) the OIV.
It is used heavily by our faculty, students and staff. Last years
'circulation' figures were: 25,195 - up slightly from the previous year
when there were 23,637 viewings of images. We are a small college with
slightly over 1000 FTEs.

I have not only been impressed with this image bank, but also with ARTstor's
customer service. The staff at ARTstor are keen on knowing any issues
which arise and solving them as quickly as possible.

Hope this is helpful. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have
any further questions.

Christine

Subject: [ARLIS-L] Artstor or Bridgeman databases

I need to find out how well Artstor and/ or Bridgeman image databases
have been used at other University Libraries.

Are they considered a good value for the amount invested?
Could they be replaced with Google image?
Are they used primarily by faculty or students?

I will appreciate any information or opinion on these databases.

Thanks, Marilyn
