Hello,

I am not convinced that words like mosiac and collage should be co-opted for
this specific sub-section of artwork that you are asking about. Here are my
thoughts: I have studied Chinese painting and wish that I had written my
thesis proving that the Chinese masters inspired the European
impressionists. This work that you are describing feels like a modern take
on impressionism, pointalism, and the like. Chuck Close was not the first
person to create pixelated artwork (that's a way to describe it) - but he
did inspire the commercial craze of creating images that are composed of
smaller, individual images.

Why create a word when you can just describe them that way?

Please also check out the work of Ayakoh Furukawa. see the "Text Drawing"
section of her website: http://www.ayakohfurukawa.net/ . This work is
described by her galleries as text-based drawing.
