Dear ARLIS/NA members After thoughtful deliberation, the jury has come to the decision that none of the designs shortlisted should replace the "pixilated eye" design that currently graces the cover of Art Doc. The jury members all felt strongly that any new design should reflect in some way Art Documentation, ARLIS/NA, and/or art librarianship, and, while they found the designs interesting, they did not consider that any of them ultimately reflected the mission of the journal itself and ARLIS/NA, or art librarianship more generally. The jury noted the comments and suggestions which ARLIS/NA members either made on ARLIS-L or sent to the jury and the Communications and Publications Committee. The jury also considered possible next steps, which will be discussed by the Committee when it meets in Boston during the Annual Conference. The current "pixilated eye" cover will therefore be kept for the time being. I would like to thank most warmly: * the designers who submitted their designs to the competition for their readiness to participate and contribute to Art Documentation and ARLIS/NA; * the jury, Judy Dyki, Jill Luedke, Eileen Markson, Barbara Rominski and Lee Viverette for their conscientious deliberations and their judicious report; * all of you who considered the designs which were submitted, voted in the online survey, and/or offered your comments and suggestions. It is good to know that Art Documentation and the Society's publications are taken so much to heart by ARLIS/NA members.
