Hello,

I am wondering if any of you are using the CSA search widget and if you have either found a way to deal with the fact that it uses the Search Tools tab (and not the Quick Search or Advanced Search) or, if like me, are frustrated about this.

We recently redesigned our website and TIS was use the widget to the customized search box in our Research Guides page.

I was in touch with ProQuest tech support to see it there was a way for the widget to perform the search on the Advanced Search tab instead of the Search Tools tab. I explained that this is important as the Advanced Search tab is much more user friendly (my favourite to explain complex boolean searches to students) and  I certainly do not expect at least 99% of my users to understand how to use command language.

After some back and forth this was their response:
You are correct, the search widget pushes users through to the search tools, and not the advanced search screen like we had hoped. It’s because it pushes the search string query into CSA and that won’t push into the basic or advanced search pages but only the search tools page. Sorry, I forgot the search widget forced that, so we won’t be able to push them to the advanced search screen.

They will forward my request and comments to the platform feedback group to see if they'll consider doing something about it but in the mean time I am leaning towards not using this search box because it defeats its purpose by not being intuitive... very frustrating and disappointing. Anyone else having the same issues? Any ideas to deal with this?

Thank you,
mar
