Archival Haiku Collection: Read Today
More than 50 haiku written by archivists about the profession are captured
in this
clever collection. Haiku—a Japanese poetry form using five syllables, seven
syllables, five syllables—was a featured segment in the “Archives After
Hours: The
Light, Literary, and Lascivious Side of Archives” session at Sustainable
Archives:
AUSTIN 2009. The session explored the many ideas and interests of
archivists that
expand far beyond the walls of traditional archival thought. Read the
collection
today.

New Bookstore Now Open!
The new online SAA Bookstore is open for business. The store brings you

of Archives
Power: Memory, Accountability, and Social Justice by Randall C. Jimerson,
published
by SAA. If you’d like to participate, just do the reading, subscribe to
the blog (or

Have a “Hard Times” Story to Share?
Has your institution successfully weathered the hard times over the last
year?
Archival Outlook is looking for strategies you have employed to successfully
navigate obstacles such as staff or budget cuts to keep programs alive. Or
even
better—have you been able to grow existing programs while preparing for
the future?
Send your story to Jenny Schooley.

Call for Student Paper and Poster Presentations
The 2010 Student Program Subcommittee is accepting proposals for two special
sessions dedicated to student scholarships at ARCHIVES*RECORDS/DC 2010,

Get Involved! A Call to Service in SAA
Serving as a committee or taskforce member is one of the greatest benefits of
membership in the Society of American Archivists. SAA's Appointments
Committee
invites self-nominations for appointments to commence in August 2010. For
more
information or to volunteer by January 15, visit
http://www.archivists.org/membership/volunteer/index.asp.

Continuing Education
The 2010 Education Calendar includes 13 workshops between February and
June, with
another 11 to be added soon. With so many topics to choose from, this is a
great
time to invest in your professional future with continuing education from
SAA! Take
a look at the course listings and registration.

Archives Leadership Institute (July 18–24, 2010)
Save the date for the University of Wisconsin–Madison 2010 Leadership
Institute for
archives professionals, July 18–24, 2010, in Madison. The week-long event
will
feature presentations by dynamic leaders in the archives field and outside
the
profession. The goal of the NHPRC-funded institute is to examine the
leadership
needs of the archives profession and prepare participants to influence
policy and
effect change on behalf of the profession (and, ultimately, on behalf of
the public
served now and in the future). The program is directed primarily at
mid-level to
senior staff—archivists who aspire leadership roles in their organizations
and/or
professional associations. Click here for information and application
documents.
Applications are due by January 19, 2010.
