In
January of 1777, the Continental Congress commissioned Mary Katharine Goddard
of Baltimore to print the first copy of the Declaration of Independence to
reveal the identity of the signers. Only nine known copies of the Goddard
Broadside exist today. To
honor our Founding Fathers and this Daughter of Liberty, artist Mindy Belloff
has reproduced Goddard’s elegant two-column design, hand set in Caslon typeface
as the original, and letterpress printed them one at a time on custom handmade
paper. Her print shop is located on Union Square in New York City, and has the
feel of a vintage studio reminiscent of Gutenberg's 15-century atelier but with
a very contemporary presence. The
edition is housed inside a folio with an introductory text by David Armitage,
Professor of History, Harvard University & author of “The
Declaration of Independence: A Global History” and essays by Mindy Belloff of Intima
Press and Historian, Martha King. Broadside dimensions: 20 x 16. The
edition is limited to 100. We
are pleased to extend our pre-publication discount of $300 through December
31st. If you would like to order this lovely re-creation for the
holidays, it will be sent via courier within the U.S. and will be a wonderful
addition to any Library. Please
