Dear Colleagues,

You recently received a note about renewing your ARLIS/NA membership on ARLIS-L. As you consider membership renewal, the Development Committee asks that you also consider joining the Society Circle. I am sure many of you ask "isn't that too expensive?" or "isn't that just for long-standing members?" The answers to both questions is no!

The Society Circle was formed in 2003 to help support ARLIS, especially the educational aims of the Society. For instance, donations to the Circle provide funding for the Conference Speakers Fund, the Internship Fund, and the Alternative Voices Speakers Fund. Without generous members willing to donate above and beyond membership fees, we would not be able to attract high quality conference speakers or bring new members to the profession through the Internship Fund. Members at all points in their career can contribute to these important initiatives and membership in the Circle starts at $100.

Additionally, the Conference Special Events and Development Committees would also like to tell you more about the wonderful Society Circle event at the 38th Annual Conference in Boston. The Circle will dine together at Lala Rokh, an awarding winning Persian restaurant located in the historic Beacon Hill region of Boston. Lala Rokh offers a unique Eastern Mediterranean menu, based on the home-style Persian cuisine that the restaurateurs Azita-Bina Seibel and Babak Bina grew up with. Our dinner will be accompanied by live music and we will have the opportunity to see the families' collection of 14th -16th century Persian miniatures, 8th - 16th century calligraphy, and historic maps that are spread throughout the restaurant. This event is very generously sponsored by Ars Libri Ltd.

Please consider membership in this important fund raising arm of the Society.

Chair, ARLIS/NA Development Committee
