SEI Pro 2010: ARLIS/NA- VRAF Summer Educational Institute for Visual Resources and Image Management In the current climate of abrupt organizational change and widespread financial cutbacks, many Visual Resource professionals are realizing that they need to broaden their expertise and re-focus their activities and services in order to survive and thrive in an ever- evolving technological landscape. In response to the current climate this year’s SEI Pro 2010 is designed to serve those with more advanced experience who need to acquire new skills and expertise. SEI Pro 2010 is also targeted at anyone who needs an intense, rapid introduction to managing image or digital asset collections and we encourage participation. The SEI Pro 2010 will be held at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque from June 9 to June 12, 2010. Most Library and Information Science programs offer coursework related to digital libraries and archives, however they do not often include image resources as a specialization. This Summer Educational Institute for Visual Resources and Image Management (SEI), jointly sponsored by the Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA) and Visual Resources Association Foundation (VRAF) is intended to address the needs of image and digital collection professionals by providing a standardized and sustainable program for image resource acquisition, description, management, and use. Librarians and information professionals are now being asked to step up and take on new responsibilities including digital image and asset management. If these circumstances describe your situation, SEI Pro 2010 is for you! SEI Pro 2010 has been designed to build on the core competencies acquired in previous Summer Educational Institutes, and to offer more advanced instruction to aid participants in acquiring the technological skills they need to meet the rapidly changing requirements of the profession. The SEI Pro 2010 is open to professionals, para-professionals, and graduate level students in visual resources, library science, the visual arts and related humanities fields, museum studies, and other image information disciplines, including: • librarians or information professionals with new or added responsibilities to manage image or digital collections; • visual resources professionals and art librarians wanting to update their knowledge of current practices; • other individuals currently in the profession who need more advanced training. Participants will receive a dated Certificate of Completion, signed by the president and/or director of the ARLIS/NA and VRAF.
