The ARLIS/Southern California chapter is not planning any action at this time because one of our board members is affiliated with the UCLA Arts Library. However, we hope the ARLIS/NA Executive Board might consider voicing their concern on behalf of the ARLIS/NA.
Here, again, is the link to the "Save the UCLA Arts Library" Facebook page with a link to the petition. There are now over 2,900 members of the Facebook page as well as over 2,900 people who have signed the petition.
My guess is the lack of discussion on ARLIS-L is not reflective of a
lack of concern. As many of our libraries face all sorts of downsizing
and budget cutting, it can be an uncomfortable position to take to
openly and loudly criticize other institutions. There is a Facebook
site that includes the opportunity to sign a petition, voice concerns,
protest, etc. (I signed it). People can comment anonymously. Perhaps
the Board will consider sending a letter on behalf of ARLIS/NA, given
the significance of the UCLA collections and their wide use. Or maybe
the local chapter leadership is planning something?
