Posted on behalf of Bryan Loar [log in to unmask] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ellen, thank you for your service to DAI. I spent many hours as a high school student pouring over DAI library's collection. It greatly saddens me that the collection, unsurpassed in its depth compared to other regional resources, will no longer be accessible to the public. When we discuss the value proposition of librarians and libraries, I would add to Janine <http://lsv.uky.edu/scripts/wa.exe?A2=ind0907&L=arlis-l&T=0&F=&S=&P=3315> Henri's email regarding design thinking and user experience. I would argue that librarians, through information literacy instruction and other activities, help create 21st century learners. I would argue that libraries are more than repositories-they are open creativity centers. And I would argue that our return on investment is not some sort of ethereal rhetoric. Usage and experience statistics provide concrete proof demonstrating our importance and effectiveness. BRYAN LOAR Knowledge Management & Information Specialist 316 E. KELSO RD. My position has been eliminated, and the library is closing to the public, due to budget cuts. I have greatly appreciated this listserv as a source of advice, creative ideas, and encouragement during my tenure at the DAI. Librarians are terrific at networking and supporting each other. Best to all.
