After interviews with several candidates, the Toledo Museum of Art has just issued the following information. The news was first announced at a retirement party in my honor last Friday. The Library will be in good hands.

Ms. Alison Huftalen has been newly appointed to the Toledo Museum of Art’s Reference Library. Ms. Huftalen will be replacing Mrs. Anne O. Morris, who is retiring after serving 44 years as Head Librarian. Ms. Huftalen will be responsible for all aspects of the Museum’s library collection, beginning August 4, 2009. She will be instrumental in planning and implementing programs that serve a wide variety of constituents including the staff and docent corps of the Museum, the Art Department’s professors and students of the University of Toledo, and the general public. Her responsibilities also include acquisitions and development of the library collection. Ms. Huftalen and her staff are part of the Collections Branch of the Museum and will work with other Museum staff on management issues, and assist in obtaining grants and other support for the library and associated programs.
Ms. Huftalen began her tenure here at the Museum as a volunteer in 2007 and has been on staff for the past year as the Catalog Librarian for the Art Reference Library. She came to Toledo from St John’s University where she worked in the Archives and Special Collections area of their library, and she also worked as acting Librarian for the Art Institute of Boston. Her education includes a B.A. in Fine Arts from Alfred University (2000) and an M.A. (2005) in Art History and Criticism at Stony Brook University. She also received her M.L.S. in Library Science (2007) from St. John’s University in Queens, New York. Ms. Huftalen has received numerous recognitions and awards, including ones awarded from St. John’s University, ACRL/NY (Association of College and Research Libraries), SUNY Stony Brook and Alfred University. She is currently serving as editor of Collage, the newsletter of the Ohio Valley Chapter of ARLIS (Art Libraries Society of North America).
