Have been on vacation and internet-less, but wanted to add Art Resource
(http://www.artres.com/c/htm/Home.aspx) as a major source for the sort of
fine art images you are seeking.
In preparing "250 Masterpieces in Western Painting", a set of art history
cards that reproduce and explore five centuries of the history of painting,
I secured images of the paintings cited most often in 23 art books,
including those you mentioned. Art Resource was able to provide high
quality images of the bulk of these 250 paintings, which are housed in
museums throughout the U.S. and Europe. Good luck, and please feel free to

Subject: [ARLIS-L] licensing images from textbooks
Hi everyone,
I am trying to identify sources for licensing images from the basic art
history textbooks (Stokstad, Gardner, Janson, etc.). I am aware of
Saskia/Scholars Resource. Are there other image licensors I should contact?
I am trying to help out my colleagues in Faculty Computing, we don't really
have an expert on digital images around here. I do the copyright advising
for print materials and this has morphed into videos and now still images
...
We do have a subscription to ARTstor.
