This is sad news indeed!  Ursula was a wonderful colleague!  She served as Midwest Regional Representative during my presidency of ARLIS/NA and was both capable and witty!-- and very stylish!!
She will certainly be missed!
Sincerely,
Ted Goodman

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Ursula Kolmstetter on June 5th, following a year-long  illness.  Ursula worked at the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s Stout Reference Library for over seventeen years and had a distinguished career as its head librarian since 1994.  She was instrumental in planning the Art Library’s beautiful and functional new space.

Ursula actively sought partnerships with many local institutions.  She was responsible for the automation of the IMA Library through a partnership with the Indianapolis Marion County Public Library and maintained an active exhibition schedule in the library with the help of IUPUI’s Museum Studies program.

Ursula studied Art History at Indiana University and German Literature at the University of Freiburg. She was a graduate of the Art Librarianship program at Indiana University and an active member of ARLIS/NA and ARLIS/Midstates. Ursula served on the ARLIS/NA board as Midwest Regional Representative in 2001-2002.

Along with Betty Jo Irvine, she enthusiastically promoted Indianapolis as a future conference site, and energetically served as local arrangements co-chair for the 2009 Conference in Indianapolis until her illness.  They were the driving force behind many of the Indianapolis Conference’s social gatherings, plenary speakers, and logo creation.

Ursula’s passion for contemporary art led her to participate as an on-site Monitor and to document Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s  “Wrapped Reichstag” project during the summer of 1995.

Born and raised in Germany, Ursula was proud to hold dual German and American citizenship. With her high-spirit, grace and drive, she was beloved by everyone fortunate enough to know her; she had a special gift for bringing people together and celebrating life, and for sharing her deep love of art.  Close friends and family held a gathering at her home on Sunday, June 7, to celebrate her life.

Ursula will be deeply and profoundly missed by her family, her co-workers at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, her Midstates colleagues, and by her many close friends in ARLIS/NA.

Her family invites donations for endometrial cancer research, Gynecologic Cancer Foundation, 1-800-444 4441, www.thegcf.org .
