The Assistant Librarian is responsible for
maintaining intellectual access through electronic records to materials in the
Printed Book and Periodical Collection via the integrated library system. In
collaboration with the supervisor, the Assistant Librarian is responsible for
the planning and supervision of all technical services operations for the
Printed Book and Periodical Collection, original cataloging for Printed Book
and Periodical Collection materials, and digital projects in the Printed Book
and Periodical Collection. As a team player in the library department she/he
will assist in staffing the reference desk and perform other duties and special
projects as needed.
Minimum qualifications:

- Good knowledge of current cataloging standards,
AACR2, MARC, LCSH, and OCLC systems and functions.
- Familiarity with non-MARC metadata schemes.
- Good knowledge of rare book cataloging and
cataloging special formats.
- Detail-oriented, organized, good interpersonal
& communication skills, ability to prioritize competing tasks.
- Must be able to stoop or bend to reach books on
lower shelves, must be able to reach books on upper shelves using library
stools.
- Must be able to lift books up to 15 pounds for
shelving, and push full book carts.
- Must be able to tolerate temperatures of 60-65
degrees for short periods.
Minimum experience:
- 2 years professional library experience, preferably
in an academic or special library, including cataloging experience and
experience using an integrated library system.
Preferred: In addition to above, a BA in subject
area: American history, art history, or related field.
