The concept of a "FLOATING COLLECTION" is to cut down on transporting items and raising circulation. Which means when a circulating book is sent to a BRANCH from MAIN LIBRARY, then returned to the BRANCH, it then stays AT THE BRANCH. I would like some thoughts about this concept. Our CPL collection is rich in research material, not what you would find normally in a Branch -- but at least available. We fill lots of ILL requests from across the country (to academia & public). I especially would like to hear from the other ARLIS Public Libraries about this concept.
The Library Journal article about FLOATING COLLECTIONS called "Latest Wave" in 10-1-04 issue - http://www.libraryjournal.com/article/ca456235.html?q=floating+collections
Thank you - Pam Eyerdam, Fine Arts & Special Collections Manager at Cleveland Public Library
Hello All,
I’m collecting information for my faculty: Has anyone recently been faced with the possibility of closing your art/architecture library and folding it into the main library, or merging fine art and performance libraries (art, architecture, design, art history, music, theatre, dance, etc.) into a larger arts library complex? If so, how recently did this happen, and what was behind the decision for your administration? Have your patrons been satisfied with the change?
I’d appreciate any information and will of course keep anything confidential that needs to be so.
Thanks in advance,
Amanda
