Working Together, Working Better: Liaison Relationships for Art, Architecture and Visual Resources

Liaison relationships--our collaborative and communicative associations with departments and teaching faculty--form an important part of academic librarians' job duties. This session will provide practical advice for librarians seeking to work in concert with their users to provide better services.

New Voices in the Profession, 2009

This is the fourth year of this session, which showcases the emerging professionals in arts librarianship. What are the newest and hottest ideas coming out of library schools these days?  The session gives the membership a chance to hear about new approaches to old and new problems and to learn about the current discourse of the newest ARLIS/NA members.  Come and welcome them to the profession and learn some new tricks at the same time!!

Visual Literacy: Why, What, How?

This session offers an overview of visual literacy efforts taking place across academic disciplines, in libraries and in visual resource collections. Presenters will describe specific visual literacy tools, will discuss assessment of specific visual literacy implementations, and will demonstrate a visual literacy rubric based on the ACRL Information Literacy Standards.

Where Libraries and Archives Converge: Artists Files
Mon. April 20, 10:15 - 11:45 am
Though many libraries own artists files, few know the best practices for maintaining and preserving the unique materials, documents and ephemera.   This session will look at ways to manage and to provide access to the files, as well as the role of the library in the preservation of and access to the files.

Why is that Column in the Middle of the Room: Designing for Functional, Flexible, and Forgiving Spaces for Library Instruction
Mon. April 20, 3:30 - 5:00 pm
Planning spaces can be frustrating or rewarding or maybe both!  This session will look at the multiple issues and questions that are part of any renovation or new construction project.  The focus will be on planning, designing and preparing the best instruction space.
