The Art Libraries Society/North America (ARLIS/NA) and the Visual
Resources Association Foundation (VRAF) are pleased to announce the 2009
Summer Educational Institute for Visual Resources and Image Management,
to be held at Simmons College in Boston, MA, from June 8th - June 13th,
2009.

Topics to be covered, broken once again into "days" include:

* Metadata (Core 4.0, CCO, XML, Sharable Metadata)

* Cataloging (Authorities, Standards, Integrated Access, Work vs. Image)

* Imaging (Digital Imaging, Scanning, Best Practices, Digital Project &
Color Management)

* Databases (Choosing a Database, various Databases, Image Management
Systems)

* Strategy (Intellectual Property Rights, Storage & Archiving, Digital
Repositories, Preservation & Longevity, Access & Outreach, Licensing)

Instructors, covering a wide range of expertise, have been drawn from
recognized professionals in the field, showcasing our colleagues at
Simmons.

Attendees, ranging from visual resources specialists to academics to
digital librarians and archivists to library school students, receive
certification of attendance and completion from our parent
organizations.

As most library and information science programs do not address the
needs of image collection professionals, the ARLIS/NA -VRAF Summer
Educational Institute (SEI) is intended to provide a standardized and
sustainable program for visual resources training, with a focus on
issues related to digital collection management and item-level image
metadata. As was true for the previous five SEIs, the 2009 class is
expected to be full.

SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

We are actively seeking donors and sponsors for the 2009 Summer
