The Art Collection at Mid-Manhattan Library is pleased to present two site-specific installations by emerging artist Joan Grubin. By the use of reflected color and mirror reflections she creates a three dimensional experience of “painting with light” as the viewer’s gaze is directed through successively smaller rectangular openings. Portal 1 & 2 bring to mind an ancient or mythic doorway as well as computer technology. Portal ’s series of openings suggest a learner’s experience of being drawn deeply into the interior of a subject through the gateway of a library, a book or a computer. Diana Cooper, a well known artist who teaches at Columbia University , will join Grubin for an Artist Dialogue on Monday March 9 at 6:30 p.m. on the 6th floor. The exhibition series “Art in the Windows” is curated by Arezoo Moseni.
