Subject: RSVP - RLG Roundtable @ ARLIS 2009

Hi everybody,

As you can see in the ARLIS 2009 program, the RLG Roundtable is scheduled for Monday, April 20th from 12:00 - 1:30pm (room tbd). We'd like to provide a light lunch for attendees - please let me know whether you'll come by rsvp'ing at http://www.doodle.com/7n56fhrwwpaq6um9 by *this Friday, March 27th.* Everybody is welcome!

Now that you know there'll be food, you probably don't even need to see an agenda to decide whether you'd like to attend. Just on the off-chance that content trumps lunch :-), I thought I'd let you know what we're thinking about covering. You'll find below 5 projects the RLG Partnership is currently working on, and they'll be the focus of our discussion. I'll send around a more detailed agenda as we get closer to the date.

I'm looking forward to seeing you in Indianapolis!

Cheers,

Günter

Museum Data Exchange: This Mellon-funded project has developed a suite of tools to extract data out of museum collections management systems in CDWA Lite XML, and publish it via OAI-PMH. Up next: a data analysis of the ca. 800k collection records from 9 participating art museums. What are the implications for interoperability and museum cataloging?

Archival Delivery Steering Committee: This group is focusing on projects to rethink current reading room practices, including rights and permissions, scanning rare and unique materials (whether by the patrons themselves or by staff), the flow of scanned images into digital libraries and up to the network, and loaning or borrowing rare and unique materials with trusted institutions.

Deaccessioning Print Journals Working Group: This group of 14 staff from 15 institutions has been exploring the issues around discarding print backfiles of journals available in dual format. The group serves as a microcosm of the library environment - conflicting opinions and points of view, a few already doing it, a few more not ready to pull the trigger without more assurances that this is the right thing at the right time.

RLG Journals Preservation project: A cooperative effort to define shared methods and workflows for identifying and managing at-risk scholarly journal literature, focused in particular on humanities titles distributed in print-only formats. In this project 230 at-risk titles will be evaluated for possible long-term retention and acquisition commitments by participating libraries.

Beyond the Silos of the LAMs: How can libraries, archives and museums (LAM) effectively work together? "Beyond the Silos of the LAMs" is a report summarizing lessons learned from LAM collaboration workshops at five partner institutions (Smithsonian Institution, Yale University, Princeton University, the University of Edinburgh and the Victoria and Albert Museum).
