Error during command authentication.

Error - unable to initiate communication with LISTSERV (errno=10061, phase=CONNECT, target=127.0.0.1:2306). The server is probably not started. I can see where this idea is quite appealing. As an alternative, I have been able to offer my clients (museum and university librarians) another option. I can exchange credit towards my inventory of 13,000 titles online and on my website (with an additional 15,000+ volumes not catalogued) for these duplicate or out-of-scope materials. This also can extend to my performing searches for the titles that are not in my inventory and acquiring them for my customers. These economic times call for thinking outside the box, and I am pleased to be in a position where I can assist those who assist me stay in business by offering novel solutions to budget limitations.

This can be especially worthwhile in those situations where a library budget is being slashed and there are limited resources for taking the time to create these exchange-lists of books due to work overload or diminished staff resources. Having a credit with a specialist is a worthwhile strategy and helps maintain a worthwhile resource in uncertain times. And it is more personal than sending your unwanted materials to a massive distributor. Even though this, too has it's benefits on the other end when you are buying common titles.

I haven't posted to ARLIS in quite some time, and enjoy following the discussions and threads. A finer group of bibliophiles I don't know of, and I enjoy it when I get to travel and meet those of you with whom I have the privilege of conducting business on any level. I encourage anyone to contact me with want lists, items to sell, or tips on potential customers who might benefit from my services in buying and selling individual books, small and large libraries. I am at your service and look forward to learning how I may be of assistance to you.

Sincerely,
Kevin Mullen, Bookseller
