Cathy, I believe the Blackwood films have only recently been issued in DVD format. The VHS format was just as expensive. Films on architects do seem to be a luxury at the price Blackwood, and First Run/Icarus charge for their works. However, for selected architects, Blackwood may be a good investment. I can not vouch for the quality of the content, but based on circulation statistics the students are watching films on Mies, Louis Kahn, Steven Holl, Peter Eisenman, & a few others. I searched Avery and there are six articles (1986-1993) on Blackwood. Obviously these are dated. But Liebman, Rosanna. "On Location," Architectural Record v178, no.2.(Feb. 1990): 62-63 will give you an idea of Blackwood's working methods and what to expect from his films.
